Review : Stardust by Neil Gaiman

In the sleepy English countryside of decades past, there is a town that has stood on a jut of granite for six hundred years. And immediately to the east stands a high stone wall, for which the village is named. Here in the town of Wall, Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. One crisp October night, as they watch, a star falls from the sky, and Victoria promises to marry Tristran if he’ll retrieve that star and bring it back for her. It is this promise that sends Tristran through the only gap in the wall, across the meadow, and into the most unforgettable adventure of his life.  (From: Goodreads)

⭐⭐⭐ Starry Stars!!!

There was once a young man who wished to gain his Heart’s Desire.

This is a story originally published about twenty years ago.  It got adapted into a movie.  I watched the movie when I was in secondary school, 2010.  Then was the time when I had no idea the movie was adapted from a book.  Call me an idiot 👍 This year, well, years after, I picked up this book to read.  This is my first ever Neil Gaiman’s book.

Things I Like About It

– the writing

The way how the story was told is very unique, just like those old fairytales.

– the world-building

The Faeries was such a magical place.  I don’t want to spoil anything, but…UNICORN!!!  Whaaaaat?  That was so cool!

Things I Dislike About It

– the connection between me and the characters

I didn’t really feel anything toward the characters because it’s a fairytale and also because of the writing style.  Like I’ve never feel sorry for the little Mermaid whenever I read the story.  (Honestly, I think she was stupid.)
– the movie

Umm…as a person who has already watched the movies years ago, I’d say that I actually like the movie better.  There was only slightly different between the book and the movie.  But…still, I like the movie better.

Recommendation

It wasn’t a bad read.  I enjoyed it.  If you haven’t read this book, I recommend you to read it and then watch the movie.  The next book I’m gonna pick up by Neil Gaiman would be — American Gods!

That’s all for my review of Stardust by Neil Gaiman.  Thanks for reading.  I hope you liked it.

Have a nice Sunday and I’ll see you next time.  Bye-bye 👋
