Review : Stardust by Neil Gaiman

⭐⭐⭐ Starry Stars!!!

There was once a young man who wished to gain his Heart’s Desire.

This is a story originally published about twenty years ago.  It got adapted into a movie.  I watched the movie when I was in secondary school, 2010.  Then was the time when I had no idea the movie was adapted from a book.  Call me an idiot 👍 This year, well, years after, I picked up this book to read.  This is my first ever Neil Gaiman’s book.  

Things I Like About It 

– the writing 

The way how the story was told is very unique, just like those old fairytales.

– the world-building 

The Faeries was such a magical place.  I don’t want to spoil anything, but…UNICORN!!!  Whaaaaat?  That was so cool!

Things I Dislike About It 

– the connection between me and the characters 

I didn’t really feel anything toward the characters because it’s a fairytale and also because of the writing style.  Like I’ve never feel sorry for the little Mermaid whenever I read the story.  (Honestly, I think she was stupid.)
– the movie 

Umm…as a person who has already watched the movies years ago, I’d say that I actually like the movie better.  There was only slightly different between the book and the movie.  But…still, I like the movie better.

Recommendation 

It wasn’t a bad read.  I enjoyed it.  If you haven’t read this book, I recommend you to read it and then watch the movie.  The next book I’m gonna pick up by Neil Gaiman would be — American Gods!
